Troubled Monk Presents… Oblation Barley Wine
Oblation- a word defined as ‘something offered for devotion to a god’, perhaps the beer gods in this case. At Red Deer’s Troubled Monk Brewery, the devotion to making world-class beer is abundantly clear.
In 2016, Troubled Monk took home the Silver Medal in the American Brown Ale category at the World Beer Cup. Often called the ‘Olympics of Beer’, the World Beer Cup is considered by many to be the most prestigious beer competition in the world- and Troubled Monk certainly had competition, with 6596 beers from 55 countries entered. Now, on December 13th, you can be one of the first to try Troubled Monk’s newest creation- Oblation Barley Wine. Barley wine isn’t actually wine, but a style of strong ale with a 6%-11% alcohol content. For monks, the only thing that compares in importance to beer is their sense of community. Therefore it is very important to realize there are many people involved in a special day like the launch of Oblation Barley Wine. Firstly, Red Deer County-based “Red Shed Malting”, a very cutting edge micro-maltster provided a percentage of the barley for Oblation Barley Wine- so to celebrate them as well on the big day, Gusto, one of the newest and most unique restaurants in Red Deer will not only prepare tapas for the event, but will actually incorporate malts and products from the brewery in the tapas- ensuring a perfect pairing.
So for only $20 on Dec 13th you’ll enjoy a truly unique experience- a glass of Oblation Barley Wine, delicious food and locally grown malt, all while being part of our community.
Finally, Oblation Barley Wine is the perfect gift for the beer-lover in your life. So, you’ll be able to pre-order up to three bottles of Oblation; but you’d better act fast, as quantities are limited.
