Learn More About The Impact Of RDC’s Centre For Innovation In Manufacturing!

By Sheldon Spackman
As another school year begins to wind down at RDC, we at Todayville.com decided to have a closer look at what kind of role and impact the College’s Innovation Centre has on the community. We spoke with Naveen Anand, Director of Applied Research and Innovation at RDC to find out.
Anand breaks it down into an Applied Research and Innovation Department which essentially contains several different arms. They include the Centre of Innovation and Manufacturing, a Health Research area which collaborates with Alberta Health Services and an Ecology and Environmental component which is currently evolving into more of a Clean Energy mandate.
Anand says at the Centre of Innovation and Engineering, they are quite well known on a provincial level for their work with prototyping. He says this involves 3D printing, scanning to convert things in preparation of their 3D printing, the use of vacuum formers, laser engraving and metal processing machines.
Partnerships Anand says are key to their continued success in this area. He points out that “because of our connections with other innovation networks within this region and throughout Alberta, we are able to connect entreprenuers and existing enterprises with other partners who can do work for them.” Anand says they can also help businesses by hooking them up with other small to medium sized enterprises who do specialized work in the areas that may be needed or required such as with dyes or molds.
