Lacombe Recognized For Creating Supportive Environments
By Sheldon Spackman
The City of Lacombe has been recognized with a “ChooseWell Healthy Community” Award for it’s efforts in creating supportive environments.
The Award was handed out by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association during an industry conference in Jasper on October 20th.
City officials say Community Services staff received the award for their participation in the Communities ChooseWell initiative, which included coordinating various programs, activities and challenges throughout the year to promote and facilitate healthy eating and active living.
In a release, Recreation and Culture Administrative Assistant Sonya Beauclair said “We have partnered with local schools to promote healthy eating and we take every opportunity we can to get them involved and reward them with ChooseWell-approved prizes, such as healthy lunches for classes or lunch containers for individual students.”
Upcoming initiatives include the installation of community gardens on the Lacombe Food Bank
grounds next spring.
