Jewel Of The Waskasoo Park System Officially Re-Opens!
By Sheldon Spackman
Although in use for the past several weeks already, the Jewel of Red Deer’s Waskasoo Park System officially re-opened on Friday, July 21st after a year of renovations and upgrades. Discovery Canyon, a Canada 150 Legacy Project, now has new and improved site accessibility, new walkways, enhanced mechanical features and an upgraded beach area.
The ceremony featured guest speakers such as Mayor Tara Veer, City Manager Craig Curtis and Recreation Superintendent Barb McKee. It was followed by the release of 500 rubber ducks that took the inaugural swim down the water feature.
Events concluded with a free hotdog BBQ and family activities to celebrate the re-opening, as well as Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation.
