Hospital Lottery funds turn into timely purchase of new ventilators

Updated Ventilators Prove to be Worthwhile Upgrade

Compromised breathing makes many aspects of everyday life significantly more challenging. Ventilators are an important part of patient care here at the Red Deer Regional Health Centre.

Ventilators require complex software and over 10 of the ones in the Red Deer Hospital needed an upgrade or to be replaced. It was decided in late 2019 to make this a funding priority in 2020.

With the pandemic, respiratory struggles were a reality for patients. This means that our need for improved ventilators also increased greatly, making these new ventilators a very timely addition. George Belanger, Manager of Cardiology adds that “the extra ventilators we had on hand allowed to care for 23 intubated patients.”

The Foundation couldn’t sell Hospital Lottery tickets in person throughout 2020, yet we are grateful for the generosity we received from the community. Because of this support, this timely and very necessary upgrade was completed during a very unpredictable and tumultuous 2020. “These will be used for a long time for all of Central Zone, used by the loved ones of those who helped fund it”

Because of your support, we can continue to fund enhancements like this at the Red Deer Hospital, and help ensure that the patients in our community receive the best care possible.
