Great Chief Park Enhancement Work Getting Underway
Part of Great Chief Park in Red Deer will be closed to the public for a portion of this week.
City official say work on the Great Chief Park Enhancement Project is getting underway, so the area near the west parking lot, including the entrance road, will be closed from 6 a.m to 6 p.m on March 16th, with barricades in place. The closure will help tree removal near the west parking lot, which will allow for the creation of two new entrances to improve traffic flow and safety once the enhancements are completed later this year.
On March 17th, the area will reopen, however the road leading into Great Chief Park will have some lane closures. The west parking lot will remain closed until March 18th. Park users are encouraged to use the north parking lot.
Work taking place on the Great Chief Park Enhancement Project includes construction of a new synthetic sports field and a 400 metre speed skating oval. In addition to that, a new field house/pavilion will also be built and include a concession, public washrooms, change rooms, meeting space and a timekeeper and media area. A new maintenance building will also be constructed, along with the upgrading of electrical services and a re-configuration of the parking area.
