Thank Goodness for the Farmers and Scientists Who Feed Us All
On this (Canadian) Thanksgiving Weekend many people will be gathering with families, or friends, or even strangers. And despite all of the world’s ongoing challenges, we do have much to be thankful for. We are still living in the most fortunate of times. Every day enormous steps are taken towards both multiple cures for disease, others improve our daily lives, while others reach for the stars. And while some us will always experience the inevitable ups and downs of life, for the vast majority of the world life has improved remarkably over the last 50 years.
There have never been more people fed each day, and our food has never been safer. All of this is thanks to the hard daily work of both farmers and scientists. Think of it. Nearly eight billion human beings. To put that on a scale where each of us is a single day, that’s enough days for 22 million years. And every single day of every single year of our lives, the vast majority of those days will include three full meals. 24 billion meals per day. There is much to be done, but there is much to be thankful for. So on this Thanksgiving weekend, consider raising a glass and toasting, the remarkable people that allow us to eat, and to enjoy the freedom to do literally everything we both personally and professionally do.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

British journalist produces excellent story on yesterday’s riot in DC
Today we are all reacting to yesterday’s riots in Washington where Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building. Here’s an excellent story from the UK’s ITV News. Reported by its Washington correspondent Robert Moore, much of the footage is shot inside as the violent mob stormed in through doors and broken windows.
It’s well done and a shining example of great reporting. Cudos to Mr. Moore and his crew who reported what they saw, asked questions, and put together an extraordinary piece while being in significant danger.

Former Torrington citizens create new Gopher video for Torrington Gopher Hole Museum
2020 has been a good year for the Torrington Gopher Hole Museum.
With the opening of the museum last week and a successful town fund raising event to benefit a local couple who had a house fire in early July, the community has been a hotbed of community spirit.
“I originally recorded the Gopher Song a long time ago,” said composer/musician Dennis Oster who now lives in Red Deer. “Earlier this year, I got a call from Laural Kurta, who works with the museum now and she said she was having the original cassette restored. I offered to re-record the song and it took 3 takes to get the song right.”
Former Torrington citizen and area historian, Tim Lasiuta, worked with Oster to create a video to celebrate the world famous museum was pleased to be part of the tribute.
“My family lived across the street for many years and I an honored to be part of the community, after all of these years,” said Lasiuta. “There is no official count, but I suspect that close to 200,000 people have been to the small attraction, something that no-one ever would have expected.”
July 24 marked the OFFICIAL world release of the Gopher song and video.
Long live Clem the Gopher!
