‘A Lot Of Chaos’: Former Harris Campaign Co-Chair Expresses Excitement As Biden Passes The Torch

A former co-chair for Kamala Harris’ 2020 primary campaign expressed his excitement about the vice president potentially stepping in as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee on Sunday.

CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers appeared on “CNN Newsroom With Fredricka Whitfield” to discuss Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. As the CNN commentator called the announcement from Biden “extraordinary” before praising the president’s political career, Sellers went on to discuss his “excitement” around Harris as the potential nominee.

“Let me just tell you, as a Democrat, somebody I was national co-chair for Kamala Harris for president. We’re so damn excited now. My phone is blowing up, is going crazy. I think there’s a lot of excitement, a lot of chaos, a lot of confusion. But at the end of the day, Democrats will have Kamala Harris and a long list of others, possible VP individuals, taking on J.D. Vance and Donald Trump and we stand a fair chance,” Sellers said.

Prior to Sellers excitement, the former Harris campaign co-chair detailed a meeting with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) last week, stating they had set “forth the rules and parameters” for the upcoming convention in August, noting all delegates will be credentialed soon.

“I think that there will be efforts in place and things in place to help ensure that the vice president of the United States is able to drop into this campaign that has already up and running [and] has cash. I think you‘re going to see a boost or a boom in donations over the next couple of days. I don‘t see this open primary that people are dreaming of, or warning of, or eliminating the entire ticket,” Sellers said.

“Last but not least, I think it‘s pretty clear to Elise Stefanik and others, my response and my retort and I expect the vice president and others to echo the same thing is that Joe Biden made it clear and conscious decision that he cannot lead the country for the next four years,” Sellers continued. “That does not mean that he cannot lead us for the next four months. He‘s been a noble leader up until this point. He will end his administration with a bang and do the work of the people for the next four months. But he made the very consequential decision that serving the next four years was something out of the realm of possibility for him to do and he wanted to turn over that to Kamala Harris.”

Biden released his withdrawal from the 2024 race within a letter posted to X (formerly known as Twitter), stating that he believes it would not only be best for the Democratic Party, but for the country if he dropped his reelection bid and instead focused on the remainder of his presidency. The announcement from the president comes after weeks of backlash from lawmakers within his own party as over 30 publicly vocalized their dissatisfaction with Biden remaining as the nominee.

However, calls from within Washington D.C. were not the only ones asking for Biden to step down from the race. A recent poll conducted by AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 7 in 10 adults, including 65% of Democrats, said Biden should withdraw from the race and allow the party to select another nominee. The dissatisfaction from Democrats over Biden jumped ten points, from 38% to 48% of Democrats no longer approving of Biden over the last month, according to the data.

While some lawmakers and influential Democrats have come forward to endorse the vice president as the next Democratic nominee, others such as former President Barack Obama have notably denied handing out an endorsement and instead called for a “process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”

Mayor of Chicago Vows To Fight Trump’s Immigration Crackdown As Notorious Venezuelan Gang Takes Root In His City

From the Daily Caller News Foundation

By Jason Hopkins

Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson on Tuesday vowed to fight the incoming Trump administration’s plans to crack down on illegal immigration and sanctuary cities, even as the city struggles with its own presence of migrant gang crime.

When asked if he was prepared to resist President-elect Donald Trump’s preparations to deploy “a squad” of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to sanctuary cities like Chicago and attempts to withhold federal funds from sanctuary governments, Johnson reaffirmed his commitment  to local laws that prevent cooperation with immigration enforcement authorities. The comments came despite recent reports indicating organized migrant crime has been hitting the Windy City, particularly from Tren de Aragua, an international crime syndicate originating from Venezuela.

“We’re going to defend the people of this city because, look, his attack — let’s be very clear — the president-elect, former President Trump, his threat is not just toward new arrivals and undocumented families,” Johnson said. “His threats are also against black families.”

“We’re going to stand up and protect undocumented individuals,” the mayor went on, and continued to make a connection between immigration enforcement and racial animus.

The mayor’s comments were in reaction to former ICE director Tom Homan, who has been tapped by the president-elect to serve as “border czar” for the upcoming administration. In his announcement of the appointment, Trump said Homan would be in charge of all deportations of illegal migrants.

“If you are not going to help us, get the hell out of the way because we’re gonna do it,” Homan said on Monday in his first interview since his appointment, speaking on expected pushback from anti-ICE politicians. “So, if we can’t get assistance in New York City, we may have to double the number of agents we send in New York City.”

“We are going to do the job,” Homan continued. “Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals.”

Law enforcement authorities confirmed in September that Tren de Aragua members have been arrested in Cook County — where Chicago is located — on weapons and narcotics charges, and internal emails obtained from the Cook County Sheriff’s office confirmed that members of the Venezuelan gang are in the city, according to NBC Chicago. The arrival of Tren de Aragua — which has coincided with Chicago’s own migrant crisis — has been linked to a rise in crime and has led to concerns of an impending turf war between their members and local gangs in the city, according to Fox 32.

The Chicago Police Department has arrested at least 30 suspected Tren de Aragua members between January 2023 and September of this year, documents obtained by the New York Post indicate.

Chicago officials have welcomed in at least 43,000 migrants since August 2022 and have so far spent around $150 million to house and feed them, amid the border crisis that began under the Biden-Harris administration. Many of the foreign nationals are from Venezuela and have largely been bussed into the city by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as he has sought to relieve his own state.

A growing number of Democratic politicians, such as the mayor of Los Angeles and a slate of governors across the country, have also declared their opposition to Trump’s hardline immigration agenda.

Johnson’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Betting Site CEO Slams FBI Raid and Device Seizures As Politically Driven After Site Correctly Calls Trump’s Election Win

Early Wednesday morning, Shayne Coplan, CEO of the betting platform Polymarket, which has been popular for election betting, was awakened by a dramatic FBI raid on his Soho apartment. This event occurred shortly after the platform had accurately predicted Donald Trump’s overwhelming win in the recent election, according to The Post.

At around 6 a.m., federal agents demanded that Coplan hand over his phone and other electronics. Critics have called the raid an unnecessary display of force, meant to intimidate and influence public perception for political ends.

A close source expressed frustration, stating, “They could have asked his lawyer for any of these things. Instead, they staged a so-called raid so they can leak it to the media and use it for obvious political reasons.”

Coplan himself commented on the incident, expressing his disappointment with what he perceives as a politically motivated action by the Biden administration. “It’s discouraging that the current administration would seek a last-ditch effort to go after companies they deem to be associated with political opponents. We are deeply committed to being non-partisan, and today is no different, but the incumbents should do some self-reflecting and recognize that taking a more pro-business, pro-startup approach may be what would have changed their fate this election,” he stated.

He also highlighted Polymarket’s role in the election, serving tens of millions without causing harm, and reaffirmed his optimism about the future of American entrepreneurship.

No official reason has been provided for the raid, but the source, and Coplan himself, suspects political motives, particularly given Polymarket’s successful forecast of Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, contrary to most traditional polls.
