Red Deer City Council Candidate Jason Habuza – A little about me

Hello, my name is Jason Habuza and I am running for red deer city councillor. I have lived in red deer for the past 10 years, and i don’t ever see myself moving again. I am originally from regina, saskatchewan which is about the same size as red deer, so moving here wasn’t a total shock. I was in the canadian armed forces for 14 years and loved every minute of it and also have been in the service industry for about 15 years…
I am running as councillor because I care, i live in the north end of red deer, and I see alot of changes that need to be made to this side of red deer. For one crime is a big issue, we need more patrols on the street, and i wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of a city police force because afterall, we are a CITY!
We also need to champion for a ward system to better understand what each and every citizen needs to better themselves and their quality of life. We need someone to represent each side of the city, which is why a ward system makes sense.
We also need to improve our transit hours of operation, to better work with people that do work nights, especially on sundays!
I also would support lowering property taxes on apartment dwellings so the companys that own them could potentially pass those savings onto their tenants, because one of the reasons why me and my wife moved from our apartment to a condo, was our 1 bedroom apartment a few years ago was going up close to $100 in the one year. we were paying about 869, then it was jumping to 970$…how can a single person live on there own working a normal 8 hour a day job pay that much a month for rent?….moving to a condo and getting involved on our condo board gave me an insight to what actually goes one to running a condominium and where our condo fees were going, so i can imagine that the property taxes the apartment building was getting billed for was passed on to those less fortunate.
If there are any questions, feel free to ask away, i do reply in a reasonable amount of time.
