100 Women Who Care are back and Meals on Wheels and The Glendale Sciences and Technology Parent Association are big winners!
News Release from 100 Women Who Care
Yay! About 80 of us gathered at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club on Monday night for our first in-person regular meeting since February 2020. It was simply fantastic to see so many of your faces and hear your voices. Thank you for coming out. Thank you for sticking with us through COVID. Most importantly, thank you for continuing to support important organizations in our community. Our hearts are warmed by your generosity.
Here’s a quick recap:
Of the seven nominations in the hat, pitches were made for:
- Meals on Wheels- Sherri Ryckman
- Habitat for Humanity – Karen Vavrek
- Central Alberta Brain Injury Society – Jean Stinson
- The Glendale Sciences and Technology School Parent Association – Marilla Vaartstra
Because we cancelled our September meeting, we had one extra “pitch” and everyone voted for two of the four charities. By doubling our donations, we’re able to play catch up. When the votes were counted, Meals on Wheels and The Glendale Sciences and Technology Parent Association came out on top. The services provided by Meals on Wheels is in dire need more than ever. Needless to say, COVID has impacted the food security and human contact for many seniors and other vulnerable citizens. Glendale is embarking on the long and challenging fundraising drive to build a new playground for a school and neighbourhood that is woefully underserviced.
Our very own Erin Peden from the Red Deer and District Community Foundation presented an exciting new alliance with our group. The Foundation has offered to manage our donations and stream 100% of the monies raised to the charities we select. (We are doing a happy dance – less paperwork for us!) This means that you can donate directly to the Foundation by cheque or online:
- You can mail a cheque to the Foundation at 4901 48 St #503, Red Deer, AB T4N 6M4. One cheque for both charities works great.
Please write “100+ Women Who Care – Red Deer in the memo line.
OR
- You can use this link to donate – just be sure to note the charity on the online form. It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to add $4 to each $100 online donation to cover the Foundation’s processing fees.
