Jordy Smith for Red Deer City Council

Red Deer has been my home from birth. I grew up here – riding bikes through Morrisroe and Eastview, playing at Rotary Park, and learning to swim at the Michener Centre. I graduated from Lindsay Thurber High School, then spent the next two years helping at my church in Riverside Meadows. In a twist of fate, I moved to Texas for three years to study – where I fell in love with a Texan redhead named Chrissy. After graduation, I moved back to Red Deer to work at Impact Life Church. In May 2016, I married that Texan girl, and she moved up here to join me in Red Deer. Chrissy and I love this city – the beautiful parks, the sense of community, the local Mom-and-Pop shops and farmers market. But most of all, we love how friendly and kind Red Deerians are. It’s what makes this city a great place to live!
Our city has grown and developed in amazing ways over the decades. But more recently, I’ve seen crime and drug addiction increase. North Red Deer has noticeably fallen behind the rest of the city, and tax dollars are being used on projects that do little to grow the economy and help the citizens prosper. Homelessness is pervasive and on the rise, with no real solutions on the table. With the economy down, families are underemployed and struggling to make ends meet. I want to address these issues and more, with the goal of empowering Red Deer to succeed!
