United Way- Investing in Children Sure Fire Way to Ensure Success as Adult
United Way Central Alberta feels strongly that investing in young children and youth is a sure fire way of ensuring that young people have the best chance to make the greatest impact and be the most successful as an adult. That is why one of its main priority investment areas is;
EDUCATION
Enabling Kids To Be All That They Can Be
YOUNG CHILDREN
When a child starts on the right track, it sets the stage for their
lifelong learning, health and behaviour.
Lives Changed
After four years of being on an adoption waitlist, my husband and I received a phone call saying we had a beautiful boy – Eli. It was a joyous moment, but after working for the past 10 years, I felt unprepared. The Family Centre not only provided the support I needed as a new mom, but Eli also participates in the “Learn Through Play” programs. These programs help young children understand the basics such as colours, sounds and shapes, so they are more ready to learn by the time they go to school. Karla Hoffman
YOUTH
Not completing high school significantly impacts an
individual’s future success.
Lives Changed
My eldest daughter, Chloe, was severely bullied by the other children because she was “weird and different.” I watched her go from being an outgoing child who couldn’t wait to go to school, to a closed-off shell of what she used to be.
I turned to the Boys and Girls Club for help. With the help of her mentor, Chloe became herself again. She is now a Counsellor in Training at Camp Alexo, and has learned to stand up not only for herself, but also for others who can’t. Christine Plettl
