Municipal Election –
My Dear Reddeerians,
today ville has asked me to share why I have decided to run a second term for City Council? This is a great question and one that has complex roots. In order for you to better appreciate my passion for this City I feel it necessary to share the following:
Experience
I have enjoyed over 50 years as a Red Deer resident. I am married to Red Deer native Betty for 26 years and am the father of two daughters who were born and completed their K to 12 education in Red Deer. From a business perspective I come from an entrepreneurial family and have worked for national corporations (Jim Pattison, Home Depot and Eye Recommend) all in Senior Management positions. From a Community perspective I am a current Director of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Past Board Chair for Red Deer Public Schools, Past Board Chair of the Red Deer & District Chinese Community Society and currently serve on five community committees or Boards.
Focused
Is the decision I am making improving Red Deer as a City? Throughout my first term on Council this is my litmus test. I make decisions which reflect the views of my constituents and support the development of the City as a whole. I support vibrancy which reflects the dynamic history of Red Deer along with a cultural mosaic representative of a growing municipality. “Big Picture” for me is key not just reacting to pressure points.
Community Building
By building and maintaining healthy relationships with all orders of government I am able to continuously advocate for our community. Effective utilization of these partnerships to address common issues incorporating innovation and creativity as tools. Reviewing current policy and practices to ensure appropriate taxation, Council accountability and effective municipal operations via administration. And I am dedicated to keeping our City safe and healthy – incorporating an interdisciplinary model to address crime, homelessness, our environment and resiliency in our youth.
I am running because I believe in Red Deer, I am invested in where are as a City and where we can be in the future. Red Deer has given so much to me and my family that I just can’t help but want to give back.
