Scouts Stuff-A-Tent a Success
By Sarah Maetche
A tent, a shelter, an adventure, a place to collect food for those in need?
Yes, a tent can be all of these things and it is with this last point in mind the 25th Red Deer Scout Group held Stuff-A-Tent on Saturday, April 22.
The group gathered at two Save-On-Foods locations (North and East-Hill) in Red Deer to collect non-perishable donations and fill a tent, all in support of the Red Deer Food Bank. They also served a hot dog lunch by donation.
The event was spear-headed by Chase Pack, a local scout who is aiming to earn a Chief Scout Award.
Pack is the third member of his family to organize a Stuff-A-Tent event over the past five years in order to achieve the Chief Scout Award.
On this past Saturday the troop braved inclement April weather to serve hotdogs and collect donations from shoppers at the two grocery stores.
In total, $920 was raised along with 940 pounds of food.
Serving Red Deer, Alberta for over 30 years, the Red Deer Food Bank Society is an organization with a focus on providing emergency food to those in need. For more information, visit us on Facebook at Red Deer Food Bank or on Twitter at ReddeerFoodbank.
