Red Deer’s “Big Pursuit” A Big Success!
By Sheldon Spackman
After 36 years of hosting the Bowl for Kids fundraiser each year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer and District tried something different this year. The inaugural “Big Pursuit” was held on Sunday, April 23rd and raised roughly $52,000 for the organization.
The event took place throughout the City of Red Deer where 40 teams of four people had to complete challenges in a timed event where the teams followed clues to checkpoints throughout Red Deer. There was a variety of activities, some completed by one individual, while others required full team participation.
Event Coordinator John Johnston says approximately 260 people either participated or volunteered during the event, adding that the feedback was very positive. He says the money raised will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer and District and help them with the many programs and services they provide to their clients.
In our interview with John, he outlines how important this funding is and the impact it has on our youth.
