Red Deer Middle School Takes A Stand Against Bullying
St. Francis of Assisi would certainly be proud. Well over 100 staff and students at Red Deer’s St. Francis of Assisi Middle School found or purchased something pink to wear on Wednesday. This is how schools across the country take a stand against bullying every year on Pink Shirt Day.
Students of the leadership team did a variety of things to make the day successful including making awareness posters, selling pink t-shirts, placing notes of love on lockers, making an anti bullying video and hosting a bake sale involving pink cookies that raised $130 for The Canadian Red Cross.
Here’s what it’s all about….
Pink Shirt Day began when two young students wore pink to support a classmate who was being bullied. Since then, Pink Shirt Day has become a powerful movement, and is recognized across Canada every year. Well here’s the whole story…
Bottom line is if you or someone you know is being bullied… you can definitely get help
The Government of Alberta provides supports, such as the 24-hour bullying helpline, 1-888-456-2323 and an online chat. You can also visit alberta.ca/bullying for resources and a chat line to speak with someone who can help. Albertans are encouraged to post pink shirt pictures to social media using #ABPinkShirtDay and #BeYou.
