#GetInvolvedHero – “Community”
#GetInvolvedHero – “Community” by Toby4WARD
Welcome back! Make sure to read “Hustle & Grind” before jumping in.
You might have heard “it takes a village to raise a child”. That old proverb still holds water today even though most people now live in megacities. Despite being lost in the concrete jungle of high rises, we all find our cliques. Community building is any leader’s first tool in leadership because ideas are worthless without community to back and benefit from it. No one is an island.
First step in building community is to reach out of your bubble and interact with others. Regardless of our personality type, humans are social creatures. Recognizing and accepting this simple truth leads to better leadership. We aren’t that different from one another. So go up to a stranger and start a conversation (Hello is the best opener). Find common ground and make a new friend.
Leaders:
Tara Veer is a community-oriented leader who leads by example. She is a reliable and capable role model who praises education. She governs Red Deer by working closely with City Council. She is also involved in many initiatives outside her office that focus on positive and inclusive community building.
Sir Richard Branson, a British business magnate, is a leader in forging Global Alliances to face global problems. His successful leadership style emphasizes working together with others in a positive way. His advice is “Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to.”
Becoming a #GetInvolvedHero requires a community to share the journey with. Throughout this month we’ll explore ways to forge strong, inclusive and positive community which is important because next month, we will explore “Jump”.
Question for YOU!
How are you building community? – Share reply with #GetInvolvedHero or email at [email protected]
Cheers,
Toby
