Help to Get my Diabetes under Control

Help to Get my Diabetes under Control
Amy has had type 2 diabetes for years. She had attended AHS classes years ago and felt her knowledge on how to treat this condition was pretty good. Then she ran into a time when her blood sugars became uncomfortably high. Her Doctor sent her to the RPCN Family Nurse within his clinic.
As she had previous intestinal surgery she had limited absorption of oral medications. Her doctor put on a new injectable drug, Trulicity. He said that he thought it would control her blood sugar well but could have a number of side effects. The drug did work well for control and Amy noted her A1C, blood sugars, triglycerides and weight all fell into line within a few months.
Amy appreciated being able to discuss the side effects with the family nurse and put their effect into perspective. As the drug was new to both of them, they noted and learned about each side effect and how best to minimize it together.
Amy says, “The way the nurse listened and spoke to me was wonderful. She really helped me to know that having diabetes is not my fault but that I have the power to manage it. She was a great resource to me. I am doing very well now so no longer see the nurse, but I know where she is if I ever need more help.”
