This Sunday, sample soups from 15 area restaurants at Bowls for Bellies Soup Cook-off!

The Mustard Seed will be hosting a Soup Cook-off called Bowls for Bellies this Sunday September 29th at the Mustard Seed in Red Deer. 15 restaurants will be competing in the fundraiser. All proceeds from the event will be going towards supporting the Mustard Seed’s School Lunch and Hot Meal Programs. Doors open at 1pm. The event, which includes live local entertainment, will wrap up at 4pm. Tickets are $50. Every participant will receive a ceramic soup bowl designed by students from Aspen Heights and St. Patrick’s Schools in Red Deer. Painted Earth Pottery processed / fired over 300 bowls through their kiln in Lacombe.
The fifteen restaurants include:
- The Hideout, ABC Country Restaurant, Bo’s Bar and Grill, The Hybrid, OJ’s, State and Main, Elephant Castle, Meeting Waters, Sweet Capone’s, Famosa, Westlake Grill / Heritage Ranch, Stem’s Café, Las Pameras, Brown’s Social House and La Casa Pergola.
The 15 chef’s will be competing to win the first ever “Bowly Grail” for Best Soup in the City.
Mustard Seed staff are very excited for the opportunity to provide tours to the public during the event.
About The Mustard Seed
The Mustard Seed is a charitable, faith-based organization that builds community, grows hope and supports change for people experiencing poverty and homelessness in Alberta since 1984. They care for those in need by walking alongside them on their journey towards a life of wellness, dignity and independence. They strive to create a meaningful difference within the community and in the lives of those facing poverty. The Mustard Seed’s vision is to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty where they serve. The Mustard Seed Red Deer will be opening a Health and Wellness Centre this fall. It will include medical care and mental health counselling.
For more than three years, The Mustard Seed Red Deer has become a haven for those in need. Through various relationships with the community, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers, The Mustard Seed has changed the lives of Red Deer’s most vulnerable citizens by providing:
- 58,500+ lunches delivered across 32 schools for children in 2018-19
- 23,000 + warm meals last year
- Health and Wellness Services
- Advocacy services
- Spiritual care
- Community-building activities
