Red Deer Polytechnic to sign United Nations SDG Accord

Demonstrates commitment to sustainable development goals (SDGs)

To emphasize Red Deer Polytechnic’s commitment to sustainable development, the organization is signing the SDG Accord, which is an agreement between learning institutions across the world. The Accord acknowledges and celebrates the vital role of education in working toward the United Nations Global Sustainable Development Goals and is a commitment to do more to achieve them and to collaborate.

Red Deer Polytechnic President, Stuart Cullum, and Students’ Association of Red Deer Polytechnic President, Savannah Snow, will sign the SDG Accord at an event in the RDP Studio Residence Lobby. Red Deer Polytechnic leaders will also share information on current initiatives and plans that support these goals
and will be available to answer questions after the signing.

The United Nations 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals provide a structure around which post-secondary institutions can collaborate and report on their contributions to global sustainable development.

October 31, 2022 has been designated as World Cities Day by the United Nations. The theme of this Day is “Act Local to Go Global.” The SDG Accord emphasizes Red Deer Polytechnic’s role in inspiring and empowering local action through education, community partnerships and innovation.

Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is leading work among Canadian post-secondary institutions within the framework of the SDG Accord. There are currently 34 Canadian post-secondary signatories to the Accord.
