2017 Operating Budget – Day Two
By Sheldon Spackman
It’s day two of 2017 Operating Budget discussions at Red Deer City Hall on Wednesday. Day one on January 10th saw the proposed tax rate increase of 2.51 percent fall to 2.45 percent. This is thanks to a Budget reduction of $75,000 on Tuesday which delays the implementation of the City’s EBA Computer Programming Initiative to 2018. City Manager Craig Curtis says the initiative is in regards to regular licensing fee updates for software.
Other day one highlights saw presentations from City Manager Curtis, CFO Dean Krejci and Director of Corporate Services Paul Goranson. Comments received from the public about the Budget were also reviewed and they largely called for Council to avoid a Property Tax Rate increase this year. Among those leading that charge is the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce.
Operating Budget discussions will continue on January 11th – 13th and on January 16th, 17th and 18th if needed.
